Dear President Bush, Trent, Lindsey and all you Washington folks. Amnesty, a path to citizenship, stepping into the light, legally recognized residency, whatever you call it, it is wrong.
President Bush, you and Let-‘Em-In-Lindsey have very clearly demonstrated your anger and irritation with American citizens expressing our wishes and concerns. We are not naïve, hapless children asking too many questions or speaking out of turn that need to be chastened for interrupting the adult’s conversation. Just write the check. Anger and bullying is the last resort of a failed debate and a symptom of “Groupthink.” Groupthink has lead to some of the most spectacular tragedies of the last century, e.g., Pearl Harbor, Bay of Pigs and the Challenger conflagration. You are all victims of it. You stifle debate. You are attempting to stereotype out-groups as racists. You rationalize the “group” view. Your illusions of grandeur and invulnerability cause you to truly believe that you are smarter than the rest of us. Your belief in the inherent group morality is textbook groupthink. Ya’ll need therapy! Just enforce the law.
My biggest concern is the frustration and disappointment of mainstream Americans, both Reps and Dems directed at our ELECTED leadership’s behavior, is being reported and represented by the mainstream American and World media as racism, anti-immigrant and “against” brown people. That takes groupthink to a completely new level of psychosis. Just write the check. The far left and open borders crowd has repeatedly asserted racism. Quotes from Let-‘Em-In-Lindsey like “No Catholics... Jews need not apply.” not being the kind of America he wants to live in, is a bald-faced attempt to cast all who do not agree with them as racists. Do not mis-underestimate the passion, frustration and disappointment of the fly-over-country American electorate with their representatives as being directed at illegal immigrants. It is not. Enforce the law.
Those of us in Border States have always had a close relationship with our southern brothers. We have a shared heritage that was willingly and culturally embraced from the outset. In Texas, we have always revered and respected our Mexican compatriots with whom we fought side by side in the Alamo and during the seminal events of our independence. In the past, we have wrongly, but tacitly permitted charity in the form of social services, towards those hard working folks who came here. We believed our benevolence toward these people could be absorbed by the largesse of our exchequer at the time. Write the check. Then in the mid 80s, we recognized the toll unbridled illegal immigration was taking on our infrastructure e.g., schools, hospitals etc. So back in ’86 with Simpson-Mazzoli we thought we had a reasonable, compassionate solution that dealt with and resolved this issue. Please enforce the law.
President Reagan and Ted Kennedy in concert with all the usual suspects passionately assured us mainstream Americans out here in fly-over-country that this was a one-time deal. Never again would we legitimize illegal immigrants. The borders will be secured. The laws will be enforced. Businesses will be severely punished to remove the magnet, the incentive and a guest worker program will be established. They were not. None of it happened. Look where we are now. Just write the check for the Border Patrol.
Times have changed. Today we have a flood. Our exchequer no longer covers the bill. Our benevolence is no longer permissible. Our budget cannot support it. The waves of illegal aliens flooding across our borders today are not who they were twenty years ago. They do not want to learn English. They do not want to assimilate. They do not want to become Americans! They only want a job, money, and wealth. Most of which immediately leaves the country and our commerce stream. Please enforce the law.
This bill is “the best deal we are ever gonna get.” My gracious! What an admission of failure! Settling? This is what we have descended to? Leaders do not “settle.” When a leader realizes he is “settling” he needs to step back and rethink the direction he is going. Please write the check and enforce the law.
The laws that we have are the place to start. Write the check. The Border Patrol knows what to do. Write the check. Let out the contracts to build the fence. Enforce the law. Place the Border Patrol, Coast Guard, Immigration, and Customs beyond the back channel control or influence of Senators, Congress-persons or Cabinet members. Enforce the law. No longer, permit them to shut down and restrict the constitutionally mandated activities of these organizations. Write the check.
President Bush, you may not have to run for office again. However, most of these other characters do. The therapy for groupthink in this case will be the election. It just may be harsh medicine for those committed to rewarding bad behavior. If the political strategists, wonks and advisors working for the RNC or the DNC for that matter cannot see, that a credentialed, unequivocal, credible candidate could run and win on this issue alone, he/she is blind. Re-assign them back to street canvassing! Write the check. Enforce the law. Then you can argue about what to do with the water in the boat.
Ya'll Take Care,
Johnny a. Miller
ps: RNC called the house tonight. I told them what I've been telling them for 6yrs... not another dime until the border is closed and the laws are enforced. Write the darn check.
